Check the meeting point between trouser hem and shoe instead of using one fixed rule for ankle-length trousers.

Ankle-length trousers can finish at different points depending on the cut, your height and the shoes. The label does not guarantee the same result on everyone. Put them on and look at where the hem actually lands, then choose footwear that lets the opening fall cleanly.
With a low-cut flat, there may be a visible gap above the shoe. With a trainer or a shoe that covers more of the foot, that gap becomes smaller. Neither arrangement is inherently better. What matters is whether the hem catches, piles up or presses against the shoe in a way you dislike.
A tapered trouser may stop at the top of a higher shoe instead of falling over it. Walk a few steps and see whether one leg sticks while the other drops. A wider straight opening usually has more room, but it can also show more sock or ankle than expected when seated.
Choose socks deliberately if you wear them. A colour close to the trousers creates a quieter junction, while a contrasting sock makes that area a feature. Check their comfort and whether they stay in place rather than selecting only by appearance.
For work, ankle-length navy trousers with loafers and a pale shirt make a simple starting point. If the loafers have a large decorative detail, keep the trouser hem high enough that it does not sit directly on it. For a casual day, use the same trousers with trainers and a relaxed top, checking whether the thicker sole changes the apparent length.
Sandals leave more of the foot visible. A narrow strap near the ankle creates another horizontal line; compare it with a simpler sandal if the area feels crowded. This is an outfit preference, not a restriction based on leg shape.
If the trousers consistently stop in an awkward place with all your usual shoes, an alteration may be more useful than another footwear purchase. Pin or temporarily mark a proposed length, then test it while walking and sitting before asking for the final hem. Keep enough clearance for the shoes you actually use most often.
