Choose a removable office layer by checking sleeves, desk movement and how it travels in your bag.

The layer you need under strong office air conditioning may be unnecessary on the journey there. Treat it as a separate part of the working day. A cardigan, overshirt or shawl should be easy to put on at your desk and easy to carry home; it does not need to turn the entire commute into a winter outfit.
Begin with the base garment. A sleeveless blouse gives a cardigan sleeve room to move, while a puff sleeve may bunch inside a narrow jacket. Put both on together and reach forward as though typing. If the outer layer pulls at the back or squeezes the upper arms, a larger size is only one possible answer. A different sleeve shape may work better without making the body of the layer excessively wide.
A buttoned cardigan stays in place when you move between rooms. Check whether you can close it comfortably over the day's top and whether its hem catches on your chair. An overshirt gives a firmer outline, but a thick collar can feel crowded over a high-neck blouse. Choose a collarless version if that overlap bothers you.
A wrap offers flexible coverage but asks more of your hands. If you repeatedly stand, carry papers or use shared equipment, trailing ends may become an irritation. Try placing the wrap around your shoulders while performing those tasks before relying on it as your only layer. A large scarf can be useful at a seated desk and less convenient elsewhere.
For a printed kurta and plain trousers, a solid cardigan in one colour already present in the print is straightforward. It need not match perfectly. Compare a short cardigan that finishes above the kurta's side slits with a longer one that follows the kurta line; an intermediate hem can sometimes catch awkwardly on the opening.
Pack the layer in a way that protects it from lunch containers and leaking bottles. If it will stay at work, choose something that works with several of your usual outfits rather than only Monday's dress. Finally, check the garment care label. A layer worn frequently should fit the washing or cleaning routine you can actually maintain, not merely look appropriate on the first morning.
