Use shoulder placement, sleeve width and the shirt’s hem to make an oversized shape feel intentional.

An oversized shirt and straight trousers can make a useful everyday combination because the two garments do different things. The shirt provides volume; the trousers provide a more consistent line. You do not have to tuck the shirt in or add a belt, but you do need enough room to move without the outfit swallowing the details you want to show.
Start at the shoulders. A dropped shoulder is part of many oversized designs, so the seam does not necessarily belong at your natural shoulder point. Check instead whether the sleeve opening pulls when you reach forward and whether the collar stays comfortable. A shirt that is simply several sizes too large may behave differently from one cut to be loose.
Long, wide cuffs can make the shirt feel much larger when they cover your hands. Fasten the cuff at a comfortable setting or roll it securely if the fabric allows. Avoid a heavy, tight roll that presses around the forearm. Showing the wrist is an optional visual break, not a requirement for wearing volume.
A simple watch or bracelet may be enough here. Test whether it catches inside the cuff. If you use a keyboard throughout the day, the interaction between wrist jewellery and the shirt matters more than a photograph taken with your arms still.
Straight trousers should fall without being pulled into folds by overfilled pockets. Try the shirt fully untucked first. Then tuck only the front, checking the side view so the back does not form an unwanted shelf. With a stiff shirt, a complete tuck can create more bulk than the loose version.
For a restrained combination, wear a blue oversized shirt with cream straight trousers and dark sandals. A striped shirt with charcoal trousers gives a different amount of detail without changing the basic shape. Choose a bag whose strap does not force the shirt into an uncomfortable twist.
Before leaving, sit for a few minutes and stand again. If the tuck needs rebuilding every time, the untucked version or a shorter shirt may suit that day better. The successful balance is the one that survives ordinary movement, not only the one that looks neat for a moment.
