Plan clothing for the parts of a coastal holiday spent walking, eating and travelling, as well as the time near the water.

A coastal destination still contains ordinary days: breakfast, town walks, transport, restaurants and excursions. Pack for those activities explicitly. A beach cover-up may not provide the coverage, fastening or comfort you want away from the water, and the evening temperature can differ from midday. Check the weather and the places you plan to visit before treating the trip as one long beach outing.
Choose a few garments that can form complete daytime outfits. A loose shirt with trousers, a comfortable dress or a kurta with cropped bottoms can each suit different preferences. Judge the actual fabric for opacity in strong daylight. A pale garment that looks substantial indoors may become more transparent outside, particularly if it is intended as a cover-up rather than everyday clothing.
Walk outdoors in the proposed skirt or dress if possible. A light hem, wrap opening or loose neckline may move more than expected in a coastal breeze. You can choose a more secure cut, add an appropriate underlayer or reserve that item for a sheltered setting. Avoid relying on one hand to hold the garment in place for an entire walk.
A shirt worn open also needs a usable closure if conditions change. Fasten it and see whether it still fits over the base layer. With wide trousers, check the hem in the shoes you plan to use; damp paving and sand can make a dragging edge inconvenient even when the fabric itself is washable.
Shoes for the water's edge may not be the pair you want for long sightseeing walks or a restaurant. Choose according to the actual route and surface, and check the garment lengths with each planned pair. If you bring only one everyday pair, make sure all the town outfits work with it rather than packing clothes that require another shoe you have left at home.
Keep wet items separate from clean outfits during transport and deal with them according to their care instructions once you can. Do not assume a seaside setting makes delicate embellishment, metal hardware or every textile easy to care for. A simple travel bag for used footwear and a separate space for dry clothing can prevent avoidable contact.
For evenings, one different accessory or a shirt worn closed may be enough to change a daytime combination, if the venue suits it. Pack a dedicated evening outfit only when the plans call for one. This leaves more room for clothing that earns repeated use throughout the actual holiday.
