Resolve an unclear restaurant dress code through the venue's own information, then choose an outfit that can move slightly more or less formal.

Look at the restaurant's current website or booking confirmation before interpreting photographs on social media. If the wording is vague and your footwear or clothing choice might be affected, ask the venue directly. A phrase such as smart casual can mean different things in different places. One guest's photograph does not establish the rule for every service or event.
Once any requirements are clear, choose a base outfit you already know fits well. Straight trousers with a blouse, a simple dress or a coordinated kurta set can each work in suitable settings. The useful quality is that the outfit is complete without needing a last-minute purchase. Clean condition, comfortable fit and appropriate footwear matter more than adding decoration merely to make the look seem formal.
A jacket can make a simple base more defined and provide warmth in an air-conditioned room. Earrings or a necklace can change the emphasis without requiring another garment. Choose one element you can add or remove comfortably, rather than carrying several alternatives and deciding at the door.
For example, dark straight trousers and a plain blouse can take a light jacket for dinner. If the setting is relaxed, the jacket can be removed and the outfit still works. A printed dress may need only a simple bag and familiar shoes. Try the complete combination seated so you know the waistband, neckline and sleeves remain comfortable through the meal.
The restaurant entrance may not be directly beside your transport. Choose shoes suitable for the walk and check the hem with them. If you plan to change shoes, make sure the bag can contain the spare pair without marking the clothes or becoming impractical at the table. A small shift in formality is useful; an elaborate change routine is often unnecessary.
Finally, follow the booking details for that particular visit. A private event, tasting menu or terrace booking may carry different guidance from the venue's ordinary service. Once you have reliable information and an outfit that works seated, stop trying to decode every online image. The aim is to arrive appropriately dressed and ready to enjoy the meal.
