Compare kurta hem, side openings and palazzo fullness as a complete moving silhouette.

Palazzo trousers add width through the lower half, and the kurta's length determines how much of that shape remains visible. There is no single correct pairing. A shorter kurta exposes more of the trouser rise and flare; a longer one creates a layered, flowing outline. Start with the silhouette you enjoy and the movement the day requires.
Try the palazzos alone with the intended shoes. Check that the waistband is comfortable and the hem stays clear of the ground. If the trousers drag or catch under a heel, changing the kurta length will not fix that. Establish a usable lower half first.
A short or mid-length straight kurta can leave the palazzo volume visible. A long kurta with side openings shows more of the trousers in movement than a similar-length closed shape. Take a few steps and look at the side view; the outfit may appear much fuller in motion than it does standing still.
If a kurta ends exactly where the trousers begin to widen, the two shapes may create a strong horizontal break. You might like it. If not, compare a noticeably shorter or longer kurta rather than making tiny adjustments that do not change the relationship.
Fabric matters alongside length. A crisp kurta over very fluid palazzos creates contrast. Two soft, wide garments produce a more continuous flow. A heavy kurta hem may press against the trousers and interrupt their movement, so test the actual pieces instead of judging from category names.
Use colour to reinforce or soften the division. A tonal set can connect the layers, while contrasting colours make their lengths more visible. With printed palazzos, a plain kurta can leave the lower pattern as the feature. A printed kurta with plain trousers reverses that emphasis.
Add any dupatta and bag at the end. Several long, loose elements can become harder to manage together, especially on steps or during travel. Keep the drape suited to the activity and make sure the bag does not collect fabric at one hip. The successful kurta length is the one that gives the outline you want while allowing the whole outfit to move comfortably.
Try the same palazzos with one straight knee-length kurta and one longer flared kurta. Keep the shoes unchanged. In the first outfit, the trouser shape may remain clear below the hem. In the second, the two flares may merge into one broad outline. Photograph both from the side as well as the front, then walk through a doorway and sit down.
If you prefer the fuller version, there is no need to narrow it simply because both pieces have volume. Check only that the fabric remains manageable for the setting. If you prefer a clearer division, use the straighter kurta rather than tightening the trouser waistband or adding a belt to force the silhouette into another shape.
